NSW Rebrand Logo
The brief was to give the New South Wales Government logo a refresh. The logo represents the state’s national flower, which is the waratah. However, the old logo’s waratah flower resembles a lotus flower. Not only are lotus flowers not native to Australia, but also have Hindu religious value. The typeface I decided to preserve as it is well suited for a government official logo and is clear and formal. The elements I changed however, is completely designing the flower to give it a modern, minimalist look that makes the flower resemble a Waratah, not a lotus. I designed the flower with more negative space to allow it to breathe and give it a contemporary look. I also made sure the flower works from all scale of sizes, as the logo is used at a large size on signs to on letters at a small size. I removed the gradient of colour of the red on the flower to one solid red colour to give the logo a more formal and modern look. I believe that this logo works better than the before outdated logo. Not only does it depict the nation’s flower in a better light, it is also modernises and freshens the look whilst also remaining professional and formal.
